Shongololo Express, the South African company operating unique rail tours in Southern Africa, celebrated a milestone recently when its Good Hope Adventure, which traverses the length and breadth of South Africa – departed from Cape Town on its 100 th trip.

“The company has been running adventure train tours since 1995 and the Good Hope Adventure has proved the most popular of our three 16 day adventure routes,” says Otto de Vries, Sales and Brand Manager. “It was a grand moment for us and the feedback we received from those centenary guests was truly gratifying.”

A celebratory dinner was held on board the train when it ended in Johannesburg, at which, staff members were specially honoured. From a compliment of fifteen staff members, three were given special service awards for being on duty for every one of the 100 trips.

“The awards were made in light of the many compliments we receive from guests that are directed toward our staff,” says de Vries. “Their friendliness, efficiency and good humor is a source of pride for us and contributes greatly to the wonderful vibe that exists on board our trains and is an important part of the Shongololo experience.”

The Shongololo Express touring concept is believed to be unique in the world in that the trains carry comfortable, air-conditioned Mercedes touring vehicles on board, staffed by professional multi-lingual guides. This allows Shongololo to include a wide range of side excursions all along the route from which guests may choose.

The 16-day Adventures offer an amazingly comprehensive view of the region – for instance, the Good Hope Adventure covers 23 of the 25 highlights that are internationally regarded as ‘must see’ sights in South Africa.

With the 100 th Good Hope Adventure trip Shongololo Express has provided this comprehensive view of the ‘Rainbow Nation” to more than 7000 passengers from around the world. A most emphatic testament to the attention the company gives to providing good touring, good facilities and good service.
